Mr Dirk Staat, Director of Collections of the Royal Netherlands Army and Arms Museum known as the Legermuseum, regrets to announce that the museum as from 1 November 2007 can no longer deal with applications for loans. Its stores in Delft will be closed because the collections must be moved to Soesterberg near Utrecht in the middle of the country.
As has been known for some time already the Legermuseum will be combined with the Museum of Military Aviation (Militaire Luchtvaartmuseum) which itself is already located in Soesterberg but not yet at the premises where the new military museum will be built. Considering the nature and the size of the new-construction project the loan stop will last for at least four years.
A large part of the Legermuseums collection can continue to be consulted on the website: www.collectie.legermuseum.nl. If you want to know more about a specific object or want to conduct research, you may come to the museums Collection Information Centre (CIC). Besides images it contains also books and digital images can be applied for. Since the Legermuseum itself will still remain at the location Korte Geer 1 in Delft for some years, you may visit the CIC there in person. Alternatively, you may also ask your questions per email: vraagbaak@legermuseum.nl.
Hoping that you appreciate and understand its present situation the Legermuseum is looking forward to seeing you again at its new premises in Soesterberg.
